My early flight to Copenhagen! I did just what I planned, waking up in the airport hostel, changing from my pjs to my airport outfit, and leaving. I was too stingy to get an Uber to the airport, so I walked the 15 minutes in the dark of night, getting in a little workout, and soon enough, I was inside nice and safe. I got ready at the airport, from washing my face to brushing my teeth, not sure why I was so anxious I’d miss my flight, my solo traveler OCD coming in hot. But, the peace of mind to be through security and steps from my gate was what I needed this morning apparently. I got ready so quickly I even had time to take a coffee at Pret a Manger, which led me up precisely to my boarding time.

I didn’t love that I hauled down from Berlin to go all the way back up to Copenhagen, but the timing was necessary with Paige and Emma’s schedules. I tried sleeping on the flight, and I think I was slightly successful. I am happy that I got the flight done and over with, because even though I woke up at 4:30 am for it, I was ready to go in Copenhagen at 11 am to start my day at brunch with Megan and Sophia.
I took a train from the airport to the city, and my hostel was just an 8-minute walk from the station. I dropped my stuff off at the hostel, grabbing only what I needed, and went out to meet Megan and her friend Sophia for a late breakfast at a vegan place Megan found, Kaf. The cafe was so cute and cozy. Another reunion to bring a smile to my face and meeting a new friend to add to the excitement. My sweet cousin Megan was studying abroad in Copenhagen for three weeks, and the program dates just so happened to fall over the two weeks I was traveling around Europe. I have never been to Copenhagen, and when I learned of the overlapping times, I found a free gap of time to go and visit her. It worked out so perfectly, another new place and not alone yet again.
I had so much to ask her, as this was her first time in Europe, and so much to learn about her best friend that joined us, also in the same study abroad program. Over some avocado toast and a cinnamon cruffin, I asked them about their time so far in Copenhagen.
Specifically, how their class is going, where they’ve traveled, and about their lives at the moment. We stayed there chatting forever, over two hours, all of which when the rain was drizzling, so of course when we were ready to leave, that’s when it decided to rain down. Not able to do much outside, we found a nice museum to visit instead.
I was tired from not sleeping the last two days in Madrid, from my almost marathon walking route, and the gloomy weather that after about an hour of viewing sculptures, I was ready to call it, not only from this museum but for the night. Thankfully both Megan and Sophia felt the same. They got a snack at the museum cafe before we parted ways and they went back to their place, and I walked back to the hostel. I was staying at Next House hostel, a super nice place! I got lucky that my hostel mates were so quiet and did not get ready at the same time I did. Before totally calling it a night, I did get banh mi for dinner and walked down the main shopping strip to feel as though I did something else with my day. But when I say that I showered, maybe sorted through photos for a bit, but then gave up and passed out at 9 pm to wake up at 8 am was no lie. A mild day compared to others, but it’s good to have a mix on such a long trip.
