MSP to ORD Airport Layover: Lounging

Updated: Jun 16, 2024

Hi! I am beginning my journey abroad to SE Asia for the next three months and to start my trip, I am spending 10+ hours in the O'Hare airport waiting for my layover. So, I thought I would write my first blog post.

To introduce myself, I am Hannah, I recently graduated from UW-Madison with my Masters of Accountancy where I taught a class, took classes myself, and studied for my CPA. I completed all by the time I graduated, therefore leaving me time to travel for a few months before starting full time at Deloitte in Minneapolis in October. I am grateful that I was able to complete all I was able to, giving me the ability to go on this trip.

So far, not much has happened on my trip except for lugging my huge backpacking backpack, still adjusting the straps so that it is the perfect distribution of weight. Also, taking my first flight from MSP in Minneapolis to ORD in Chicago. It was a bumpy ride but I am a fan of a bit of turbulence. So grateful that no one sat next to me on one side so I upgraded from a middle seat to the aisle and I surely bet the man next to me was grateful I moved over as soon as I validated that no one was going to sit there.

When I got to Chicago, I headed straight to the United Lounge hoping to get a comfy place to spend my day, vegging out on free food and having a good place to get some work done. At first I got rejected because I am flying Turkish and it wouldn't process, but then I waited for a second opportunity and a new attendant and I got in. Phew. It was a daunting thought to spend the day in the airport in crowded and uncomfy areas, with little vegan options for food.

The minute I got in, I found my table, dropped my bags, filled a plate up with food, and went crazy on the fruit and coffee. Its my first time in a lounge, but if there was a time ever, this would be it. I have three meals worth I need to eat, and being alone, not worrying about running to the bathroom and leaving my bags is a great feeling. Kinda like the vibe of studying in the business school library in Madison where you wouldn't even worry about someone taking your stuff. I love the feeling of safety. And let's be real, I'm probably the poorest one in this club so I don't think my stuff would be the most desired anyways. And I doubt anyone could carry that bag past the table next to me its so heavy.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the tales I hope to share, the updates I have, and any tips I may have to offer. Best, as I continue on with my day in this lovely United Lounge of mine.
